IGCSE pass rate rises slightly in 2025

Mbabane – The Ministry of Education and Training released the 2025 Form 5 IGCSE results on Friday, with Minister for Education and Training Owen Nxumalo announcing a marginal improvement in the national pass rate.

The overall IGCSE pass rate rose to 82.08 percent in 2025, up from 81.96 percent recorded in 2024, representing an increase of 0.12 percent. The results reflect the performance of learners across all four regions of the Kingdom of Eswatini during the 2025 examination cycle.

Regional statistics show variations in both credit and overall pass rates. Hhohho Region recorded the highest credit pass rate at 35.56 percent, followed by Manzini at 34.00 percent. Lubombo achieved a credit pass rate of 33.60 percent, while Shiselweni stood at 31.87 percent.

In terms of overall pass percentages, Hhohho again led with a pass rate of 90.31 percent. Lubombo followed closely at 89.52 percent, with Shiselweni recording 89.43 percent. Manzini registered a pass rate of 87.74 percent.

The ministry also released the names of the top performing candidates who attained five A stars in the 2025 IGCSE examinations.

Position one was shared by Simelane Phiwakwandze, Gadlela Lungiswa Sebenele, Vilakati Sanelisiwe Precious, Magagula Sinethemba Nkosimlondile, Mhlanga Sinethemba, Nkambule Nolwethu, Nkambule Phumla Cebiswa Sihlongonyane, Sihlongonganye Lindelwa Lindokuhle and Simelane Andiswa Jason. These candidates are from Evelyn Baring High School, Mankayane High School, St Mark’s High School, St Francis High School, Dwalile High School, Siphocosini High School, Ngomane High School and Manzini Nazarene High School.

Position two included Chibi Siyabonga Terence, Dlamini Khulani Abahle, Nsibande Takhona Sihle, Amaumo Ian Omwaka, Mamba Mphilwenhle Malwande, Sibandze Nosiviwe Velile, Nhlengetfwa Silungiselwe Luphawu, Khumalo Msizi Thembela and Simelane Bongiswa. These learners are from Evelyn Baring High School, St Mark’s High School and St Francis High School.

Position three was attained by Mabuza Sinethemba Pearl, Dlamini Ntando Decent, Mlotsa Sandziswa Angie, Shongwe Nosipho Nontsentselelo Mkhululi, Dlamini Bongumusa Mkhulile and Vilakati Mayenziwe Nkosilenhle. Their schools include Mayiwane High School, Madlangemphisi High School, Mhlatane High School, St Francis High School, Mhlume High School, Londunduma High School, Hawane High School and Charles Wesley High School.
