Dakar – Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has declared Monday January 19 2026 a national public holiday following the country’s victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, granting citizens a paid day off to celebrate the football achievement.
The announcement was made after Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1 0 in the final played at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat. The tightly contested match was decided in extra time when midfielder Pape Gueye scored the winning goal to secure the title for the Lions of Teranga.

President Faye said the holiday would allow citizens at home and abroad to take part in nationwide celebrations and recognise the efforts of the national team. He described the victory as a moment of unity and pride for the country, crediting the players and technical team for their discipline and commitment throughout the tournament.
The triumph gives Senegal its second AFCON title after lifting their first crown in 2021, confirming their strong presence on the continent with two titles in the last three editions of the competition.
