MBABANE – Renowned gospel powerhouse Nothando Hlophe continues to make waves across the continent after her hit worship anthem Methodist Medley surpassed an impressive seven million views on YouTube, cementing its status as one of the most impactful gospel releases of the year.
The song, lifted from her latest album A New Dawn, is a powerful testament to the enduring appeal of authentic, spiritually rooted worship music. Recorded live on June 7, 2025, at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, the medley blends traditional Methodist hymns with contemporary gospel soundscapes, brought to life by Hlophe’s signature powerhouse vocals and a dynamic live band.
The track’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. It amassed over 100,000 views within its first week, before rapidly climbing past the one-million and four-million milestones in just a few weeks, ultimately reaching seven million views.
Beyond YouTube, Methodist Medley has become a staple across social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook, where it is widely used in reels, testimonies, and worship clips extending its reach far beyond Eswatini’s borders. Its lyrics, centred on divine protection and spiritual refuge, have resonated deeply with audiences across generations and denominations.
The digital milestone comes amid a ground-breaking season for Hlophe. She recently claimed the prestigious Best of Africa Gospel Artist Award at the 18th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards in South Africa, affirming her growing continental influence.
On the home front, Methodist Medley was crowned Best Song of the Year at the National Gospel Music Awards, where Hlophe also scooped Best Gospel Artist and Best Gospel Album for A New Dawn. She has since embarked on a series of back-to-back interviews on major South African radio stations, further amplifying her reach.
Her manager, Phindokuhle Sithole, said the song’s success reflects a noticeable cultural and musical shift among listeners.
“Audiences are gravitating towards music that carries authenticity, spirituality and cultural identity,” Sithole said. “There has been a gap in the space for traditional yet fresh gospel expressions, and Methodist Medley has stepped in to meet that demand.”
