JOHANNESBURG– The Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival has reinforced its commitment to strengthening creative and cultural ties between South Africa and Eswatini following the successful launch of its 2026 edition in Johannesburg, South Africa, ahead of the highly anticipated festival set for 1–2 August 2026 at House On Fire in Malkerns.

Hosted at Artistry in Sandton on 21 July, the stakeholder and media launch highlighted Luju’s growing role as a platform connecting artists, chefs, fashion designers, entrepreneurs and tourism stakeholders across Southern Africa while expanding opportunities for regional collaboration and cultural exchange.

Now in its eighth edition, the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival has become one of Southern Africa’s premier lifestyle events, combining world-class food, fashion, music and family entertainment under this year’s theme, “A Return to the African Future.”

South Africa will once again play a major role in the festival programme, with an impressive lineup of acclaimed musicians including Grammy Award-winning artist Zakes Bantwini, Nasty C, Zola 7, Mandisi Dyantyis, Shwi Mantombazane, Liquideep, TMan Xpress, Wandile Mbambeni, Vuyo Viwe, Thando Zide, the Masekela Band, WONDERboom, the Kyle Shepherd Trio, and Johannesburg DJ duo Circles & Squares.

The country’s influence will also extend to the fashion and culinary stages, with renowned designer Mzukisi Mbane of Imprint South Africa headlining the Luju Fashion Runway, while Chef Mmabatho Molefe and Coco & J will showcase South Africa’s vibrant gastronomy through culinary demonstrations inspired by this year’s theme, Nguni Foodways.

Festival organisers said the South African launch reflects Luju’s long-term vision of creating stronger regional partnerships that promote knowledge exchange, market access and mobility for creative entrepreneurs, artists and small businesses throughout Southern Africa.

This year also marks a significant milestone as Luju expands into a full two-day festival experience, celebrating African cuisine, music, fashion, design and entrepreneurship through immersive programming rooted in indigenous knowledge and contemporary African excellence. More than 10,000 festivalgoers from over 26 countries are expected to attend.

Beyond entertainment, Luju continues to make a significant economic impact. In 2025, the festival generated E2.7 million in sales for 103 SME traders, with 85 percent of participating businesses being locally owned. Meanwhile, the wider House On Fire festival ecosystem contributes more than E121 million annually to Eswatini’s economy while supporting over 2,300 jobs.

The 2026 fashion programme will embrace “Kwasukasukela (Once Upon a Time),” celebrating African storytelling through contemporary design, while the culinary programme explores Nguni Foodways, honouring indigenous food traditions and their role in shaping identity, innovation and sustainable development.

The Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival returns to House On Fire on 1–2 August 2026, promising another unforgettable celebration of African creativity, heritage and innovation while further strengthening the cultural partnership between South Africa and Eswatini.
