Mbabane: As the National Football Association of Eswatini officially ended the 2019/20 MTN Premier League, Young Buffaloes will be crowned the Champions of the MTN Premier League.

The announcement was made by Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Chief Executive Officer Frederick Mngomezulu at Sgwaca House on Friday. Mngomezulu said the decision to end the season is because of the prevailing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic as it was found impossible to resume football in the country.

Mngomezulu said it is not only the Premier League competition that was called off but all the football competitions that were on going during the season and that includes Eswatini Bank Cup and Charity Cup that was supposed to commence if things were all normal.

In the First Division, Thabankulu Callies will also be crowned champions of the First Division League and on top of that, Callies will be promoted to Premier League next season.

Worth noting also is that for the 2019/20 season there will be no team that will be relegated across all the League competitions, but teams that were on top of their league standings will be promoted to higher levels. This means that next season there will be 16 teams in the league competitions.

Mngomezulu stated that the decision comes after numerous meetings with all stakeholders which saw the football competition not making through as there were many factors that attributed to the decision. One of the reasons is that the country could not have enough stadiums as Somhlolo National Stadium is still under rehabilitation and Mavuso Trade Centre is currently used as a quarantine center for COVID-19 patients.

Mngomezulu said issues of presentations will be addressed by sponsors and details on that will be communicated in due course.
