Mbabane – HRH Princess Sakhizwe has urged Emaswati to support locally produced goods and home-grown businesses, saying national progress depends on the choices citizens make every day.
The Princess made the call during the launch of the Made in Eswatini Mark of Origin Licensing Programme, an initiative designed to help consumers easily identify and trust products and services made in the Kingdom while putting local production at the centre of economic development. She said choosing local products is not only an economic decision but a commitment to Eswatini’s long-term prosperity.
Princess Sakhizwe announced that the Made in Eswatini mark has now been registered as a trademark, following certification by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, MP Mancoba Khumalo. She encouraged local brands to protect their intellectual property to confidently use the mark while safeguarding their business interests.
The ceremony also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between A Peculiar People and the Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eswatini. The Princess described the partnership as a platform that empowers young entrepreneurs to produce locally, access markets, and participate more fully in the economy.
She said supporting products made by local hands builds national pride and creates opportunities for young people, particularly in a context where many goods imported into Eswatini could be produced domestically. Citizens, she said, carry the responsibility to back local innovation through their purchasing choices.
Princess Sakhizwe thanked the United States Embassy in Eswatini and the Municipal Council of Mbabane for supporting initiatives that place youth, innovation, and local economic development at the centre of national growth.
