Lagos, Nigeria – American rapper and internet personality Darryl Dwayne Jr., known as DDG, has described Nigeria as safer than the United States during his visit to Lagos. His comments, captured in a video shared by CutnPaid on X on Thursday, January 1, have sparked widespread discussion online.
DDG challenged perceptions of Nigeria as a particularly dangerous country, saying the level of gun violence in the United States is far worse. “I think America is the most dangerous country there is, to be honest. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America, nowhere near,” he said.
He compared crime patterns in both countries, noting that while petty robbery can occur in Nigeria, shootings and gangster-related violence are far more common in the United States. “You get robbed out here for sure, but people aren’t getting shot like that the way it happens in America,” he said.
The rapper encouraged foreigners to visit Nigeria and form their own opinions rather than rely on stereotypes. “So if anybody is thinking about coming out here, just pull, bro,” he added.
DDG dismissed what he called “fake” Western media narratives about Nigeria’s safety, urging people to experience the country firsthand.
