Buhleni – Residents in the northern Hhohho region have been urged to take note of major service interruptions at Emkhuzweni Health Centre after severe storm damage forced the facility to reduce operations.
The Ministry of Health confirmed on Monday that the clinic suffered extensive structural destruction during a recent storm and has since suspended several essential services. The most critical setback is the closure of inpatient wards, which were badly damaged and can no longer accommodate admissions.
According to the ministry, the health centre is currently limited to offering twenty four hour emergency care, outpatient consultations and dental services. All other units remain inactive. These include maternity, the TB unit, public health services, cancer care, VCT, the laboratory, HTS, the kitchen and catering unit, laundry and the mortuary.
Cancer survivors already receiving treatment may still access pain management, although the centre is unable to take on new patients who require comprehensive oncology services.
Government has deployed three contractors to the site to begin structural repairs. Work is already underway, with the aim of completing full refurbishments by early 2026. The ministry has also prepared a contingency plan to set up temporary structures that will house some of the departments that are currently shut down.
The ministry appealed for patience from residents during the restoration period and promised further updates as work progresses.
