Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is shrouded in uncertainty after the Egyptian star made scathing comments following the team’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United on Saturday. Salah expressed his frustration after being left on the bench for the third consecutive game, suggesting his relationship with manager Arne Slot had deteriorated, and leaving open the possibility that his upcoming match against Brighton could be his last for the club.
The 33-year-old, who signed a new contract at Anfield only last season, was visibly disappointed with the decision to bench him for the critical Premier League clash. He stated, “I have done so much for this club, especially last season, and now I’m sitting on the bench, and I don’t know why.”
Salah further accused Liverpool of “throwing him under the bus” and indicated that someone at the club wanted him to take the blame for recent setbacks. “It’s very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame,” Salah said in a candid interview after the match.
Salah also revealed that his relationship with Slot, which had once been strong, had now broken down completely. “I had a good relationship with the manager, but now there is no relationship,” Salah said, adding, “It seems like someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
The situation has left Salah questioning his future, especially as he prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in mid-December. “I don’t know what will happen when I am there,” he said, hinting that his time at Liverpool could be nearing its end.
Although Salah’s frustrations are evident, he did not rule out a potential move in January, with Saudi Pro League clubs continuing to monitor his situation. However, Salah remains committed to his love for Liverpool and its fans, stating that his feelings of disappointment are solely directed at the current circumstances, not his allegiance to the club.
In the face of mounting speculation about his future, Salah continues to be one of the Premier League’s most prolific players. Still, he remains uncertain about what comes next for him at Liverpool, a club where he has cemented his legacy as one of its greatest players.
Manager Arne Slot, who chose not to bring Salah on during the Leeds match, defended his decision, stating that he made tactical choices based on the team’s needs and the strengths of the opposition. “It is never an easy decision because we know what a great player he is,” Slot said, adding that Salah’s absence from the starting lineup was not personal but part of an overall team strategy.
