COVID-19: Four (4) new deaths, 65 new cases

Mbabane: The number of COVID-19 related deaths has increased to 32 as four new deaths were confirmed on Sunday, along with 65 new cases and 46 new recoveries.

In the daily reports by the Minister of Health Lizzy Nkosi, the Ministry announced that there have been four deaths reported in the past four days. On July 22, a 56 year old man from Manzini region died after he was admitted on July 20 in one of the country’s facilities when he presented severe respiratory symptoms. He was admitted into the isolation ward in an unstable condition and treated as a COVID-19 suspect and his condition continued to deteriorated whilst he was cared for in the hospital. He had known co-morbidities.

The 30th death is of an 81 year old woman from Manzini region who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on July 21. She was admitted at one of the health facilities in a moderate to severe state and managed under oxygen support. She continued to be in an unstable state with difficulty in containing the pre-existing illness, resulting in her death on the early hours of July 25.

The 31st death was a 76 year old woman from Hhohho region and she was admitted at one of the country’s facilities after presenting with respiratory distress symptoms. On admission, she was tested for COVID-19 and admitted under isolation whilst waiting results. She developed complications as a result of pre-existing illnesses. She was confirmed positive for COVID-19 disease on July 24 but unfortunately passed away on July 25.

Death number 32 was a 51 year old woman from Manzini region who was admitted on July 19 at the hospital presenting with multiple complaints. She was then admitted and tested for COVID-19 and managed while waiting for her results. Her condition deteriorated and demised on July 24.

On another note, Nkosi reported that the total number of infections has increased to 2207 as 65 cases reported on Sunday. Nkosi said the new positive cases came from the 399 results received on this date.

The number of recovered patients has also increased 986 as 46 cases patients were cleared and discharged. This bring the number of active cases to 1124.
