The Premier Soccer League’s meeting to decide the fate of the 2019/20 Absa Premiership, Nedbank Cup and GladAfrica Championship campaigns has been postponed.
The League was set to hold a board of governors virtual meeting on Friday to deliberate over the way forward for the 2019/20 season which was suspended back in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Clubs had been preparing for kick-off on July 18 following a previous meeting, but this was put off after local football motherbody SAFA proposed August 1 as the earliest re-start date.
This required further deliberations between the PSL and all stakeholders, including sponsors, before an agreement could be reached with the association.
However, following the passing of League chairman Irvin Khoza’s wife on Thursday morning, those discussions have now been deferred to next Monday, July 27.
Whether this postponement will have an impact on the re-start date is as yet known, though SAFA have confirmed that they are continuing with preparations to have match officials ready for duty by the start of next month.
Some clubs have been back in training since early July upon receiving clearance from the PSL, but are still awaiting confirmation before they can report to the biological safe environment in Gauteng.
