India’s largest city in Gujarat, Ahmedabad, has been confirmed as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games following approval by the Commonwealth Sport membership during its General Assembly in Glasgow on 26 November 2025.
The decision followed an extensive assessment by the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee, which settled on Ahmedabad after a competitive bid that included Abuja in Nigeria. The event will be the 24th edition of the Games and will carry special significance as it marks one hundred years since the inaugural competition was staged in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930.
India returns as host for the first time since the 2010 Games in New Delhi, where the country recorded its most successful medal haul to date. Team India claimed 101 medals during that edition, including 38 golds, finishing second on the overall standings.
Organisers revealed that between 15 and 17 sporting codes will be contested at the 2030 Games. These will include athletics and para athletics, swimming and para swimming, table tennis and para table tennis, lawn bowls and para bowls, weightlifting and para powerlifting, artistic gymnastics, netball and boxing. As hosts, India is allowed to submit up to two additional sports and is currently considering hockey and shooting for possible inclusion.
The previous Commonwealth Games took place in Birmingham in 2022, while Glasgow is preparing to welcome participating nations for the 2026 edition.
