Pretoria – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, had the adhoc committee members at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre, where Vusimuzi Cat Matlala is currently held on murder charges, in stitches when he asked about the ‘screens.’
“I wanted to check where are the screens? The screen. Screen. We can’t see you,” he said referring to televised session of the committee business prior to Chairperson of the adhoc committee, Mr Molapi Soviet Lekganyane, busting into a short-lived laughter.
“That’s how parliament works,” Malema continued.
The house however, turned a bit tense, microphones turned off, beginning to turn what began as a surprise noticing of things from Malema into a matter of concern for parliament.
“Chair, Mr Malema is wearing a suit today. The screens are quite important for him,” a member attempted to break the silence causing some slight laughter. But Malema responded rudely to such a comment prompting Lekganyane to ask about what he has to say about him wearing the suit he was wearing.
“I didn’t want to be confused with the residents here,” Malema responded and the house burst into laughter again.
But then Lekganyane briefly rebuked the facility personnel. He reminded them to keep proper logistics for parliament business to continue, asking them how they could have not adhered to necessary procedure given that an assessment was done prior to bringing the committee to the correctional facility.
It was said that instead of the screens the committee sitting was being live broadcast on YouTube.
For the sake of progress, however, Lekganyane called the committee to continue its business and called the first witness of the week, Puleng Dimpane, Lieutenant General of the SAPS.
