Manzini – A group of young leaders in Manzini successfully hosted Men Unscripted on November 21, aiming to spark a much-needed conversation around men’s mental health. The event, held at the American Corner in Manzini, brought together young men aged 18 to 35 for an intimate, three-hour dialogue on vulnerability, healing, and the power of community.
The initiative was led by 19-year-old Angel Zubuko, a first-year student at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) and founder of the Youth Forever Charity Club. Zubuko, who is also active in arts and philanthropy, said the event was born from her desire to address the hidden emotional struggles faced by many young men. “Young men carry silent battles behind strong faces. They need spaces where they can just be themselves and not pretend,” Zubuko explained, highlighting the importance of creating safe spaces for emotional expression.
The panel featured prominent figures, including Bianca Stewart, an entrepreneur and public speaker known for her faith-driven approach to youth empowerment. Joining her were psychological counsellor Mduduzi Mbingo, wellness coach and psychology professional Pamela Simelane, and Siphiwo Lushaba, an award-winning entrepreneur and mental health advocate. Lushaba, who founded a digital mental health platform, noted the significance of creating spaces where men feel heard. “Men want to talk. What they lack is a space where they feel seen,” he said.
Rather than a formal seminar, Men Unscripted offered a conversational environment, where listening was just as important as speaking. The event’s goal was to help young men unlearn harmful societal expectations, build emotional intelligence, and shift the narrative around seeking help. Organizers emphasized that expressing vulnerability and reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness, but rather a powerful step toward healing.
With free entry and limited seating, the event attracted students, young professionals, and community members eager to engage in this vital dialogue.
