Kusekhaya Lowveld Invitational Road Race Director Mduduzi Kaudi says the annual event is gathering impressive momentum, but he believes women’s participation needs greater attention as the race continues to grow within Eswatini’s cycling community.
Kaudi spoke ahead of tomorrow’s competition, which will be staged along the Mhlume road and has attracted 161 cyclists from both local clubs and neighbouring countries. The field includes 20 international riders from South Africa and Mozambique, along with 25 mountain bike cyclists supported by the Nedbank Eswatini Imvelo MTB Classic. Organisers say interest remains strong across all categories.
Despite the positive response, Kaudi noted that only 27 women are registered this year. He said this is an area the organising team intends to focus on as they plan future editions of the race.
He thanked sponsors for their continued support and said the team is preparing for a smooth and incident free event. The winning contenders are expected to emerge from a competitive field familiar with the Lowveld terrain.
The race is marking its fifth year and has maintained last year’s entry fees, which stand at E150 for the 30km family ride and E200 for the remaining distances. Cyclists will compete across routes of 5km, 30km and 50km, all of which remain unchanged from the previous edition.
