Mbabane – Colile Shiba, a 26 year old employee at Mbabane SuperSpar, claimed first place in the women’s category of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force recruitment race held today at Mhlambanyatsi Inkhundla. Her victory secures her a place in the next stage of the army selection process.

Shiba said she prepared for the 3.2 kilometre race with daily training and by taking part in the Mbabane Parkrun, a weekly Saturday event for local runners. She added that this was her first attempt at competing for an army position.

In the men’s category, 23 year old Ndumiso Dlamini from Lundzi Umphakatsi finished first, also advancing to the next recruitment round. Dlamini shared that he trained by running five kilometres in 15 minutes every day. “If you put your mind into something nothing is impossible,” he said.

Male runner-up Phiwayinkhosi Dlamini, another Lundzi Umphakatsi resident, expressed gratitude to the army for allowing ordinary emaSwati to participate in the recruitment drive. He also thanked God for guidance during his preparation, noting that this was his first time entering the race.
