Mbabane – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called on lawmakers to craft legislation that is practical and responsive to the needs of the people. He made the remarks while officially opening the Police Service Regulations 2025 workshop for the PM’s Office Parliament Portfolio Committee and alternate members this morning.
Dlamini said outdated laws often disadvantage the public and urged legislators to review and reform those that hinder service delivery. He noted that since taking office, he had observed several pieces of legislation that were not people-centric.
“We need more deregulation. We need more enabling legislation, not disabling. Let us support the Royal Eswatini Police Service by making sure that these regulations make it easier to work,” Dlamini said.
He added that all efforts should focus on combating crime and addressing social disorders that threaten national peace and stability. Strengthening laws that empower the police service is critical to this mission, he noted.
A disciplined police force, the Prime Minister said, is key to building public trust and ensuring officers serve with integrity and professionalism. Public safety and the apprehension of offenders remain government priorities in line with the King and Ingwenyama’s call from the Throne earlier this year. Government and security stakeholders were urged to act with urgency and determination.
