Durban – Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has praised the contributions of his substitutes after the team secured a 3-1 victory over Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Wednesday evening.
Yanela Mbuthuma, Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng came off the bench to influence the game. Mbuthuma scored twice, while Maswanganyi and Mofokeng set up crucial goals that helped the Buccaneers pull ahead.
The win lifts Pirates to second place on the league log with 22 points from 10 games, trailing leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by three points but with two games in hand.
Ouaddou said the victory showed the team spirit he wants at Orlando Pirates. “Everybody is important. I always say there is no substitute, there are only players and impact players. We want to maintain this dynamic until the end of the season,” he said.
The coach added that keeping a strong team ethos and focus on development would allow the squad to aim high this season.
Following the Premiership win, Pirates turn their attention to the Carling Knockout semifinals, where they will face Richards Bay at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday. Golden Arrows will host Marumo Gallants at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 3pm.
