New Delhi – Eswatini is exploring new opportunities for renewable energy collaboration with India through the International Solar Alliance (ISA), as part of efforts to expand the country’s solar energy capacity.
During the ongoing ISA Assembly in New Delhi, the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, His Royal Highness Prince Lonkhokhela, met with the President of the Alliance, Hon. Pralhad Joshi, who also serves as India’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy. The two officials discussed possible areas of cooperation and technical support that could accelerate Eswatini’s transition to clean energy.
Prince Lonkhokhela outlined Eswatini’s commitment to harnessing its solar potential in line with national energy reforms aimed at improving energy security and sustainability. He called for investment partnerships to help the Kingdom upgrade its transmission and distribution networks to accommodate higher levels of solar generation and improve overall grid stability.
Joshi assured Eswatini of ISA’s support in scaling up solar projects and ensuring that future electricity tariffs remain affordable, reflecting the global reduction in the cost of solar photovoltaic technology.
The Minister is also expected to hold further talks with ISA Director-General H.E. Ashish Khanna to explore practical steps for implementing solar energy initiatives in Eswatini.
The Director of Energy in the Ministry, Ms. Thabile Nkhosi, was part of the Eswatini delegation attending the meeting.
