Mbabane – The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) has awarded scholarships to two young women to pursue Information and Communication Technology (ICT) studies at the University of Eswatini.
The new beneficiaries, Siphesihle Shongwe and Tembuso Ngwenya, join four other female students previously sponsored under the same initiative, which aims to empower more girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
During the handover ceremony, ESCCOM Chief Executive Officer Mvilawemphi Dlamini encouraged the recipients to stay focused and not let their backgrounds determine their future. He reminded them that education remains the key to success and urged them to study diligently.
“You must work very hard and avoid repeating or supplementing any modules,” Dlamini said. “If you fail, your scholarships will be revoked and you will be required to reimburse the Commission for funds already paid on your behalf.”
One of the first beneficiaries of the ESCCOM scholarship, Nomvelo Ngwenya, expressed gratitude to the Commission for its continued support. She encouraged the new awardees to seize the opportunity and remain dedicated to their studies.
“We are grateful to ESCCOM for giving us this chance to build our future in ICT,” she said. “We assure the Commission that we are committed to working hard and excelling in our studies.”
Shongwe will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, while Ngwenya will study for a BSc in Computer Science at the University of Eswatini.
