Cape Town, South Africa –The 11th Africa Gas Forum is scheduled for 5 March 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, running alongside the Africa Energy Indaba. The event will bring together energy policymakers, industry leaders and investors to discuss the growing role of gas in Africa’s energy transition.
The Forum comes as South Africa updates its Integrated Resource Plan, prioritising gas-to-power capacity to reduce reliance on coal. Across the continent, demand for gas is rising, driven by power generation, industrial use and expansion of liquefied natural gas and pipeline infrastructure.

Africa’s gas consumption reached about 183 billion cubic metres in 2024 and is expected to grow by roughly 4% in 2025. Sub-Saharan Africa could see demand rise to over 200 billion cubic metres within the next two decades, a five-fold increase from current levels.
Top gas-consuming countries in 2025 include Egypt at 60.1 bcm, Algeria at 48 bcm, Nigeria at 20.7 bcm and South Africa at 4.5 bcm. South Africa’s compressed natural gas sector generated around US$1.94 billion in revenue in 2024 and is projected to nearly double to US$3.75 billion by 2030.
The International Energy Agency predicts combined natural gas demand in Africa and the Middle East will grow by approximately 3.5% in the near term.
