Mbabane – The founder of Eswatini Skating Academy, Nonso Henry Anizoba, will represent the country in the United States as he attends Skate America, a professional development program designed to train and connect skating coaches from around the world.
Anizoba’s participation in the program marks a significant step for Eswatini’s growing skating community, giving him the opportunity to learn from international experts, experience advanced training techniques, and build global partnerships that could benefit local athletes.
“This trip means a lot not just for me, but for the future of skating in Eswatini,” he said.
“When I return, I’ll apply everything I’ve learned to improve coaching standards and create more opportunities for our young skaters.”
Since its establishment in Manzini, the Eswatini Skating Academy has introduced skating to hundreds of children, youth, and adults. What began as a small initiative to promote fitness and fun has evolved into a movement that teaches confidence, teamwork, and discipline.
Anizoba said seeing the joy of children trying on skates for the first time continues to inspire him to expand the sport’s reach. His next big dream, he revealed, is to build Eswatini’s first-ever ice-skating rink, a project he believes will boost both sports development and tourism.
“The rink will create opportunities for training and recreation. It will also give every young person in Eswatini the chance to experience the magic of skating on ice for the first time,” he said.
Through the academy, Anizoba has championed a vision of “building champions both on and off the rink.” His trip to the United States, he said, is part of that mission to take Eswatini skating to the world stage and bring the world back home to Eswatini.
