Mbabane – Eswatini National Fire and Emergency Services (ENFES) has celebrated a major milestone: 50 years of dedicated service to the country.
The golden jubilee was celebrated in style during the second-ever Fire Day, which was held at Matsapha International Airport today.
This year, unlike in 2024, there was no pass-out parade, but it was just a day of celebrating the officers of the service who have served tirelessly over the years to protect lives and property.
ENFES was established in 1975 through the King’s Order in Council, 1974, to prevent wildfires and provide other emergency services.
Eswatini National Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service Public Relations Officer Mandla Dlamini said this year’s Fire Day was aimed at educating the nation about the critical work firefighters perform every day.
“This year’s Fire Day is all about showing the public what our firefighters can do, from saving lives to catching snakes,” said Dlamini, adding that the 50-year celebration was not only a reflection on the service’s rich history but also a recognition of its evolving role in modern-day emergency response.
Dlamini noted that over the past five decades, the ENFES has expanded beyond its traditional firefighting duties to include rescue missions, hazardous materials management, and community safety education.
“This is a moment of pride for every firefighter. It’s about celebrating their courage and commitment to keeping Eswatini safe,” he said.
