Cabinet surprises PM with birthday wishes
Mbabane – Prime Minister (PM) Russell Dlamini’s low-key birthday celebrations sifted through the social media quarters today.
Dlamini, turning 52 on October 23, was surprised by some cabinet ministers at the King Mswati III International Airport as he was due to board his plane for a state visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho, where he will represent His Majesty King Mswati III at the national celebration of King Letsie III’s Presidential Global Water-maker Award.
Despite the early silence of the announcements from his office, the PM was treated to well wishes with a birthday song sung to him in the afternoon before he boarded his plane.
Among the people expressing their best wishes for the PM on his special day were Minister of Foreign Affairs Pholile Dlamini-Shakantu and Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Prince Lonkhokhela. The PM security detail remained nearby.
Dlamini said he didn’t expect the surprise and that he does not publicly celebrate his birthday.
“Those closest to me will know that I don’t normally celebrate my birthday publicly, save for a thanksgiving prayer. But this is so heartwarming. Sincere thanks to the Hon. Ministers and the entire Nation,” the PM posted on his X platform account.
The PM is the youngest to have been appointed to his position. He was appointed by His Majesty King Mswati III on November 4, 2023.
