Mbabane – With the countdown to the Imbube Marathon now under 72 hours, participants have been advised to maintain their normal pre-race routines and avoid any last-minute changes that could negatively affect performance.
The marathon, which will kick off at 6 a.m. at the Somhlolo National Stadium in Lobamba on Saturday, is expected to attract a large field of local and international athletes. Organisers and sports nutrition experts have cautioned runners against trying new foods, supplements, or gear so close to the race.
Experts from runners connect net emphasise that athletes should not introduce unfamiliar meals or products during the tapering period, as this can upset digestion or cause fatigue on race day. Over 5000 athletes have registered for the Imbube Marathon. It started on 2019. The temptation to try something new, especially after hearing about it from other runners or at race expos can often lead to discomfort during the marathon.
Runners are further encouraged to have a clear plan for what, when, and how much they will eat in the days leading up to the event. Those prone to digestive sensitivity are advised to stick with foods that are familiar and proven to work well during training runs.
Athletes are also reminded to test everything, from clothing and footwear to hydration packs before the race to ensure comfort. Trying out the same breakfast and meal schedule intended for race day during the final training sessions can help identify any issues before the big day.
