Lobamba – His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Lindani has applauded the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development Second Quarter Performance Report for the 2025/26 financial year.
In his remarks, Prince Lindani said the ministry’s “tireless efforts in developing the country” was shown and that this reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable growth aligned with Eswatini’s national vision.
The prince is the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development Portfolio Committee Chairperson.
Other members of the committee commended the ministry for its dedication to national development, particularly acknowledging the hard work of the Microprojects Programme. They emphasized the need for balanced regional development to ensure that all parts of the country benefit from economic initiatives.
The performance report revealed that Eswatini’s economy recorded a 0.5% increase in real GDP during the first quarter of 2025.
It highlights modest economic growth, easing inflation, and continued commitment to inclusive national development despite prevailing challenges.
However, the report noted a slight year-on-year contraction of 0.3%, mainly attributed to declines in the primary and secondary sectors.
The primary sector’s decline was driven by reduced output in mining, quarrying, and forestry. The report cited operational inefficiencies, fluctuating coal demand, and growing international competition as key contributors to the downturn.
On a positive note, the ministry reported easing inflation, strengthened reserves, and expanded credit to the private sector factors that signal progress toward financial stability and sustainable growth.
