MBABANE – The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, working with Elangeni Chicks, has launched an Egg Sale Business initiative aimed at empowering child-headed households to run sustainable small enterprises.
The programme, unveiled on Monday, has already seen 1,200 trays of eggs donated to 40 vulnerable young people across the country’s four regions. Each beneficiary will also receive training in basic business management to help them run their ventures effectively.
So far, 10 young people from the Manzini–Mbabane corridor have received 30 trays each, amounting to 300 trays distributed under the pilot phase. According to the organisers, the first batch of eggs was sold within a week, prompting the beneficiaries to place new orders with Elangeni Chicks.
Elangeni Chicks Business Manager Aaron Dlamini said the company was pleased with the progress made so far, describing the early results as promising. He said they would continue to support and monitor the participants until they could operate independently.
Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla said the initiative was designed to create lasting opportunities for young people living without parental support. She commended Elangeni Chicks for providing not only the egg stock but also training in business management and financial literacy to ensure the participants gain long-term skills.
The DPM urged the beneficiaries to remain committed and use the project as a foundation for financial independence. She also called on emaSwati to support the young entrepreneurs by buying their products.
Dladla expressed gratitude to Elangeni Chicks for its partnership, describing it as a gesture that brings hope and dignity to vulnerable youth.
