MASERU – The Trans Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign, backed by the Ghanaian government, arrived in Lesotho on Tuesday as part of its continental tour promoting African unity and visa-free travel for all African citizens.
The campaign team, led by former Ghanaian MP Ras Mubarak, held a courtesy meeting with His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru. The discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation and the benefits of a borderless Africa.

Lesotho is the 13th country on the campaign’s 39-nation journey across Africa. Ras Mubarak said a visa-free continent is achievable within five years and could significantly boost economic growth, tourism, and cultural exchanges across Africa.

The visit coincided with Lesotho’s 59th Independence Day celebrations on October 4, marking the country’s liberation from 98 years of British rule in 1966. The campaign team noted the resilience and unity of the Basotho people as a model for the broader African vision.

The delegation also met with Prime Minister Sam Matekane’s office, where Chief of Staff Shale Sofonea and Press Secretary Thapelo Mabote welcomed the team. The meeting included the presentation of a letter urging Lesotho to support visa-free travel initiatives across the continent.
During a press briefing in Maseru, Ras Mubarak spoke to local media about the campaign’s objectives, which include promoting seamless travel, encouraging intra-Africa tourism, and fostering cultural exchanges. He said a borderless Africa would create jobs, increase government revenues, and strengthen trade and tourism networks across the continent.
Lesotho’s scenic landscapes, from the towering peaks of the Maluti Mountains to the rolling plateaus of Sehlabathebe National Park, were also celebrated during the visit. The campaign team described the Kingdom in the Sky as a symbol of hope and unity, reflecting the vision of a connected and prosperous Africa.
The Trans Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign continues its journey across Africa by road, engaging governments, traditional leaders, and citizens to advocate for open borders and a visa-free future for all African nations.
