Maseru – The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) has received six motorbikes from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) through its Regional Value Chains Lesotho Project. The handover ceremony took place yesterday, October 3, 2025, at the Arrival Centre in Maseru.
The donation was officially presented by GIZ Country Director, Mr Stephan Huppertz, who explained that four of the motorbikes are brand new while two had been previously used. He said the support was part of GIZ’s ongoing collaboration with Lesotho, aimed at strengthening policing and enhancing service delivery to communities.
“We are proud of our partnership with the Kingdom of Lesotho and its police service. This request from the police was made to help them improve mobility in their operations, and we are glad to contribute,” Huppertz said.
Receiving the motorbikes, the Commissioner of Police, Advocate Borotho Matsoso, expressed gratitude to GIZ and the Regional Value Chains Lesotho Project. He noted that this was not the first time the organisation had extended support to the LMPS.
“Partnerships like these show that hands wash each other. Together, the police and GIZ are committed to building, not destroying, the foundations laid by others. These motorbikes will go a long way in assisting our officers in their work,” said Advocate Matsoso.
