MBABANE – Nsingizini Hotspurs President Derrick Shiba has admitted that Tanzanian giants Simba SC pose a formidable threat as the Eswatini side prepares for its CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash.
Hotspurs secured their maiden spot in the competition after edging Zimbabwe’s Simba Bhora in a tense penalty shootout. The victory set up a daunting tie against Simba SC, one of Africa’s most seasoned clubs, who advanced after defeating Botswana’s Gaborone United 2-1 on aggregate.
Shiba, speaking after watching the Tanzanian champions in action, said their tactical discipline and mental strength make them a dangerous opponent. “They fought hard in Botswana and managed to secure a vital goal. They are well organised and carry great experience. They are a strong opponent and a real threat to us,” he said.
The contrast between the two sides is stark. Simba SC boast 18 CAF Champions League appearances and a reputation as one of East Africa’s most successful teams, while Nsingizini are making their first appearance on the continental stage.
Despite the gulf in experience, Shiba maintained that Hotspurs will prepare thoroughly and remain committed to fighting for a place in the group stages. The two-legged tie will be played on the weekends of October 17–19 and October 24–26, with the winner advancing to the lucrative next round.
