MBABANE — Eswatini will host the inaugural visit of the Toyota Toycam Crew, a South African group of classic car enthusiasts, from 3 to 5 October. The convoy will bring more than 25 vintage Toyota vehicles, most of them the iconic Cressida, across the border into the Kingdom.
The Toycam Crew, based in South Africa, owns vehicles dating back to the 1980s, with the older box-shaped Cressida models celebrated for their durability and engineering reliability. The convoy will travel through Matsapha and Manzini on Saturday, 4 October, starting from Kwaluseni at 10 a.m.
Zweli Vilakati, Eswatini’s representative of the crew, said cars will arrive on Friday at Oshoek from Johannesburg and Pretoria, with additional vehicles joining from Johannesburg, Newcastle and Durban the following morning. He said the convoy aims to showcase well-maintained classic cars, promote Toyota’s longevity, and remind the public of the Cressida’s legacy in the 1980s.
Vilakati also noted that the group hopes to go beyond the car display by identifying community needs during the visit. He said future returns may include initiatives to assist local communities in addressing these gaps.
