Harry Kane continued his record-breaking form in Germany after scoring twice to help Bayern Munich secure a 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen on Friday night. The England captain reached 100 goals for the Bavarian club in just 104 matches, making him the fastest player this century to hit the milestone in Europe’s top five leagues.
Kane won and converted a penalty just before half-time before adding a second in the 65th minute. His tally surpassed the previous record of 105 games, held jointly by Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid in 2011 and Erling Haaland at Manchester City last season.
The match saw former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz put Bayern ahead early, while Konrad Laimer added a late fourth to preserve Vincent Kompany’s side’s unbeaten run at the top of the Bundesliga.
Kane, who joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 for £100 million, has been rewriting records since his arrival. Last weekend against Hoffenheim, he became the fastest player to reach 70 Bundesliga goals, doing so in only 67 matches. He also holds the record for most goals in his first 50 Bundesliga games, scoring 54, and was the quickest to reach 50 goals, needing just 43 appearances.
On Friday, he also extended his perfect penalty record in Germany, becoming the first player to convert his opening 18 spot-kicks in the league. The 32-year-old has twice finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer and remains the only player to score 25 or more goals in each of his first two seasons.
This campaign, Kane has already netted 15 goals in eight appearances across all competitions, including two hat-tricks in just five league matches. His consistency has placed him firmly in contention with Bayern’s legendary strikers, with many German football analysts arguing he has surpassed Robert Lewandowski in influence.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany praised Kane’s all-round contribution. “It is more about his work off the ball. He runs, presses, wins penalties, and spends energy to create chances. Behind his talent, there is a lot of hard work,” said Kompany.
Despite recent rumours linking him with a return to England, Kane dismissed speculation of a Premier League comeback. “I am really happy here. I have two years left on my contract. I am enjoying it with the team, with the coach, and hopefully we continue to be successful,” he said.
Former footballers and analysts, including Pat Nevin and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, have lauded his influence, with many describing him as one of the most complete forwards in modern football.
