Mbabane: MTN has announced that airtime advance accessed through XtraTime, will now be recovered from all loaded balances – both airtime and data bundles.
In the past airtime advanced to a customer could only be recovered from their airtime, and not data loaded after advance was made.
MTN XtraTime allows prepaid customers 24 hours’ access to advance airtime when they run out of it and payback on their next recharge. Previously, when MTN advanced airtime to customers, repayment was limited to airtime recharges. This means when a customer loaded airtime, the company would be able to deduct the airtime advanced to a customer if they had not initiated repayment.
Over time, this service has been misused by some customers who would avoid repayment by loading only voice minutes or data bundles, from which airtime advanced could not be recovered.

MTN Corporate Affairs Manager Mandla Luphondvo says: “In our quest to keep our valued customers connected at all material times, we are constantly monitoring the performance of all products and solutions to ensure that they are sustainable and efficiently meet customer needs. One of the notable practices MTN XtraTime, which has been corrected, is a budding tendency to avoid repayment of airtime advanced.”
Luphondvo further encouraged customers to repay anything advanced by the company to its valued customers so that the service can continue to be enjoyed by many more customers in future.
Luphondvo further said the recent improvement on MTN XtraTime is to ensure that customer quickly settle airtime advanced to them so they can benefit in future when they are under pressure and need to make an urgent call, which could land them into a business deal or safe them from imminent trouble.
MTN Eswatini remains convinced that everybody deserves the benefit of a connected life. “To ensure access to such connectedness, we kindly request our customers to work with us and clear airtime advanced to them in good time,” concluded Luphondvo.
