Ezulwini – The Governor of the Central Bank of Eswatini has urged delegates at the 2025 SADC RTGS End User Conference to focus on cyber risk management and expanding currency options for regional payment systems.
Over 200 participants from all 15 SADC member states gathered at the CBE Complex in Ezulwini on Tuesday to discuss cross-border financial transactions. The SADC Real-Time Gross Settlement system allows high-value payments between financial institutions to be processed in near real-time.

The Governor warned that these systems are frequent targets for cybercriminals due to existing vulnerabilities. He noted that while the RTGS currently processes payments in South African Rand, there are ongoing plans to include other currencies, such as the US Dollar.
Delegates were encouraged to provide insights on policies and operational measures that will support the integration of additional currencies, a move expected to strengthen intra-regional trade.
