MBABANE – Local disk jockeys (DJs) form association and to award E20 000 prize to the winer of the newly launched Eswatini national DJ competition with additional rewards for top performers.
The competition was unveiled at the 23:28 Lounge in Mbabane on Wednesday by the Eswatini DJs Association, under the leadership of Thamsanqa Mataraza Zwane, Thando Ntshangase, and DJ Lolo. It is aimed at discovering and promoting new talent while professionalising the craft nationwide.
The association’s Secretary General Manager, Ntshangase, said registration opens on November 1 via their online portal. To drive up membership, all applicants are required to sign up as members to access the competition platform.
Organisers say the contest will feature regional eliminations at different entertainment venues, culminating to a high-energy grand finale crowning the deejay of the year. Ntshangase said while there is a prize and additional incentives, the initiative is designed to motivate participants and elevate their profiles.
Collaborations are aso highly encouraged, Ntsangase said.
“This competition is about creating visibility and opportunities for DJs within the wider entertainment industry. With support from stakeholders, promoters, and venue owners, we can transform the sector and strengthen its contribution to the creative economy,” he said.
The association will act as a collective voice for DJs in the country, advocate for professional recognition, develop skills and drive influence shaping the local entertainment scene.
The association has the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) support and recognition. ENCAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Dlamini described the competition as a strategic investment in the music industry, noting the critical role DJs play in music consumption trends.
“With a well-developed DJ industry, our local music can reach bigger platforms because DJs are among the most powerful influencers of music consumption,” he said.
