Mbabane – Linda Madlokovu Dlamini, 35, of Ngwenya, was arrested by community members after attacking a woman and stealing her belongings along Ngwenya Freeway.
The victim, Nokuthula Ndlangamandla, told the court she was waiting for transport near Elawini LeNgwenya at around 7:50 a.m. on the day of the incident when Dlamini suddenly grabbed her arm, struck her with a log, and strangled her while demanding money. He took her purse, a blue Mobicel i2 cellphone, cash of E130, and other valuables worth about E550.
A passing motorist witnessed the attack and, together with local residents, pursued Dlamini on foot. The suspect ran into a homestead and tried to hide but was pulled out by community members. Police officers passing by were alerted and took Dlamini into custody before escorting him to Mbabane Police Station.
Ndlangamandla said she handed over her belongings only because she feared for her life. Dlamini later pleaded guilty to robbery and assault but offered no defense. The prosecutor questioned inconsistencies in his statement, particularly his claim that he did not take the cellphone, which was later recovered.
Dlamini has been remanded in custody and will return to court on 11 September to present witnesses and continue the trial.
