Mbabane Highlanders AM FC players have expressed disappointment after the club offered them contracts with no salary increases for the new season.
According to The Voice of the People, management met the squad after a training session to present the deals. Among the first to be approached were Siyabonga Mkhonto, Mpilonhle Khumalo, Siwakhile Shongwe and Giggs Ndlovo, who all played under contracts last season.
The new offers include match-winning bonuses, but many players had expected improved pay. Around five key players are yet to finalise their agreements, creating uncertainty for the team as preparations for the new campaign continue.
One player told the publication that they had anticipated better conditions but were left with no option other than to consider the proposals. He added that the group still hoped the situation could improve.
The club’s top earner, Vusi Vilakati, remains on E9,500 a month, while general manager Richard Makhoba is facing pressure to either adjust the contracts or let some of the unsettled players leave.
Team owner Mamkhize is meanwhile awaiting the outcome of her legal battle with former club president Rubber Simelane before setting out her plans for Highlanders. The squad is scheduled to return to Eswatini on Thursday morning.
