Manzini – His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir claimed top honours at the 11th Ntjilo Ntjilo Festival on Sunday at the UNESWA Sports Emporium, earning double platinum awards and a total of E36,000 in prize money.
The choir scored 95 percent in the Western large category and 93 percent in the African large category, winning E20,000 and E16,000 respectively. Their overall 188 points placed them ahead of competitors REPS and Manzini Choir. HMCS performers also took first place in the quartet category with 82 percent.
Under the direction of Melisizwe Sibusiso Zwane, the choir impressed judges and audiences with technical precision, emotional delivery, and versatility. Their performances included Rossini’s “Oh! Quale alta d’intorno” from William Tell and the historical ballad “Sizilo” by Mathokoza Sibiya.
Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, Commissioner Phindile Sibandze, and other senior officers attended to support the choir. Dlamini commended the performers for their teamwork and dedication, noting the group’s impact on community unity.
The festival also showcased duets, trios, and quartets, with HMCS members excelling across categories. Thando and Tengesihle won the duet section with 88 percent.
