Mbabane: There will only be a three-week break in-between the end of the current 2019/20 season and the next 2020/21 campaign.
This was revealed by Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu as he announced ‘operation football restart’ at Sigwaca House on Thursday afternoon. Eswatini will begin its plans to resume the season halted by the coronavirus pandemic in phases staring on June 15. The detailed plan will see the current campaign completed between 14 to 16 weeks from the announced restart date. Remaining competitions under the Premier League of Eswatini are the MTN Premier League and EswatiniBank Cup which carries tickets to the Total CAF Champions League and Total CAF Confederation Cup continental tournaments respectively.
According to EFA projections, the season should be wrapped up in mid-October, if the 16-week plan succeeds.
Therefore, the 2020/21 season will presumably begin at the start of November.
“We will have just a three weeks break before the start of the following season. Around that time, with the direction of FIFA will open the registration window period,” Mngomezulu said.
EFA is expected to present its detailed plan to resume football to government next week, and same to sponsors.
