YOKOHAMA – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu said she feels proud meeting emaSwati making strides in Japanese tech firms, particularly in robotics.
The minister referred to His Majesty King Mswati III’s recent engagement with four Eswatini nationals based in Japan, including Ndumiso Dlamini from Siphocosini, who arrived in Japan as an engineering student in 2006 and now works in robotics design and assembly.
Shakantu said the King’s efforts to connect with emaSwati abroad reveal the wealth of talent Eswatini has internationally. “The King wants emaSwati to one day return home and lead similar sectors,” she said, referring to the proposed E6 billion Industrial Park backed by Taiwan.
She noted that the culture of respect promoted by the King helps emaSwati gain recognition and progress in their careers overseas. The minister said the government is exploring the possibility of opening an embassy in Japan to strengthen bilateral relations, trade, and cooperation.
“Having a presence in Japan will allow us to maintain direct contacts and follow up on programs without waiting for TICAD,” Shakantu said, adding that current services are managed from the Malaysia office, which limits engagement.
