Johannesburg – Toyota has revised the Urban Cruiser for the local market, adding new features to its three-model lineup, following criticism over missing equipment compared with the Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The updated XS and XR models now include a rear window wiper across all trims. XS grades receive 15-inch wheels instead of steel with plastic covers, while XR models get LED headlights with auto on/off and follow-me-home functions. Inside, all variants now have type-C USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a nine-inch infotainment screen replacing the previous seven-inch display. The XS also receives a parcel shelf.
Mechanically, the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine remains unchanged, producing 77kW and 138Nm, with a five-speed manual standard and the XR offering a four-speed automatic option.
Pricing for the updated Urban Cruiser ranges from R342,700 for the XS to R373,800 for the XR automatic. All models carry a three-year/100,000 km warranty and a four-year/60,000 km service plan.
