Toyota City, Japan, October 20, 2025 – Toyota Motor Corporation has unveiled the new Land Cruiser FJ, with the Japan launch expected around mid-2026. The model will be presented at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, taking place from 30 October to 9 November at Tokyo Big Sight.
Originally launched as the Toyota BJ in 1951, the Land Cruiser became the first vehicle to reach the sixth station of Mount Fuji. Over more than 70 years, the Land Cruiser has been refined based on real-world global use, providing reliability, durability, and off-road performance. Cumulative sales have reached approximately 12.15 million units across more than 190 countries and regions, including Lexus LX and GX models.
The Land Cruiser lineup currently includes three series: the Station Wagon 300 Series as the flagship with the latest technologies, the Heavy-Duty 70 Series designed for durability and serviceability, and the 250 Series, a core model reflecting a return to the vehicle’s origins with a simple and sturdy design.
The FJ adds a new value proposition called “Freedom & Joy,” allowing drivers to enjoy the Land Cruiser in their own way while maintaining its signature reliability, durability, and off-road capabilities.
Exterior features include a square cabin for better habitability and cargo capacity, a rectangular body with dice motif and chamfered edges, flared fenders, and removable segmented corner bumpers for easier repairs and customization. Interior design offers a horizontal instrument panel for easy recognition, a low-set cowl for forward visibility, and consolidated controls that reduce eye movement. Toyota Safety Sense provides active safety features including a Pre-collision Safety System.
Off-road performance is enhanced with a shorter 2,580 mm wheelbase, higher body rigidity, and underfloor braces. Wheel articulation comparable to the 70 Series ensures tires remain on uneven terrain. The FJ allows a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters and maneuverability on rough terrain.
Customization options include MOLLE panels for outdoor gear, robust exterior accessories, and round headlights reminiscent of previous Land Cruisers. Toyota is also developing the Land Hopper, an electric personal mobility vehicle to carry passengers and cargo, designed to expand mobility beyond traditional driving.
The FJ measures 4,575 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,960 mm in height, seating five passengers across two rows. It is powered by a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline engine, paired with a part-time four-wheel drive system and six-speed Super ECT transmission, producing 120 kW (163 PS) and 246 N·m of torque.
Toyota says the Land Cruiser FJ will continue the model’s mission of supporting lives worldwide, offering trusted mobility, adventure, and daily use for customers around the globe.
