ANTANANARIVO, MADAGASCAR – Namibia has established the International Women’s Peace Centre to strengthen women’s roles in peace, security, and development across the Southern African Development Community. The announcement was made by Namibian President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at the 45th Ordinary SADC Summit.
The Centre will champion the principles of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which recognises women’s participation in conflict prevention, resolution, and post-conflict reconstruction. It aims to promote peace, safeguard women’s rights in conflict and post-conflict contexts, and foster women’s leadership throughout SADC.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah called on member states, including Eswatini, to support the initiative and collaborate with the Centre to empower women as agents of change. She said the initiative aligns with Namibia’s long-term commitment to gender equality and the advancement of women in economic and social development.
