His Majesty King Mswati III has called for two of Turkmenistan’s largest state-owned enterprises to establish a presence in Eswatini, just a day after the two countries formalised diplomatic relations.
The King, accompanied by Inkhosikati LaMotsa, visited the Türkmenbaşy Oil Processing Complex and the Türkmenbaşy International Seaport to explore potential areas of cooperation. The visits were conducted on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), currently underway.
The oil refinery and the seaport are among Turkmenistan’s most strategic infrastructure projects. The King’s interest in these facilities is closely tied to Eswatini’s planned E5.2 billion Strategic Oil Reserve, which will be constructed at Phuzamoya in Siphofaneni. The project is expected to break ground before the end of the year.
