NHLANGANO – Ngwane Teacher Training College officially welcomed its new cohort of student teachers on Thursday, 31 July 2025, with a week-long orientation programme focused on health education and personal development.
Held on campus, the Tertiary Orientation Programme introduced first-year students to key services and information they will need as they begin their academic journey. The event was attended by officials from the National Emergency Response Council on HIV and AIDS (NERCHA), the Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders.
The orientation placed strong focus on HIV and AIDS awareness, with sessions designed to equip students with knowledge about available prevention methods in the country. These included the use of condoms, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), and voluntary medical male circumcision.

Students also received information on other health issues, including cancer, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases, sexually transmitted infections, and mental health.
A member of the Swaziland Network of Young Positives (Snyp+) who is openly living with HIV gave a moving personal testimony, encouraging students living with the virus to pursue their goals and live confidently. His message resonated with the students, many of whom are entering tertiary education for the first time away from home.
To lighten the mood and reinforce the day’s messages, the FLAS Youth Action Movement performed a short drama that reminded students to remain focused on their academic goals despite distractions.
On-site HIV testing was also made available through AHF Eswatini, allowing students to know their status as they prepare for the new chapter ahead.
