MBABANE – Japan has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Eswatini, following a courtesy visit by the new Ambassador to the Kingdom, H.E. Shimizu Fumio, to Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini on Tuesday.
Ambassador Fumio, who had earlier presented his letters of credence to His Majesty King Mswati III, met the Prime Minister at the Private and Cabinet Office to discuss areas of cooperation between the two countries. The talks focused on development aid, education, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and disaster risk management.
Japan also welcomed Eswatini’s intention to open a diplomatic mission in Tokyo, a move expected to boost bilateral engagement. Ambassador Fumio extended an invitation for Eswatini to participate in the World Horticultural Exhibition scheduled for 2027 in Yokohama, which will showcase global advancements in agriculture and the beauty of nature.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed the King’s message requesting Japan’s support for infrastructure and business initiatives that could deliver real impact in the country.
The visit comes as Eswatini and Japan mark 54 years of diplomatic relations, with both sides expressing interest in pursuing new areas of cooperation.
