MATSAPHA – Mbabane Highlanders AM have shelved plans to complete their official name change from Mbabane Highlanders, pending unresolved compensation issues involving former club director Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane.
Simelane is reportedly owed E1 million, and the matter remains unsettled. The club’s leadership has opted to hold off on finalising the rebranding until the dispute is addressed.
Despite the administrative delay, major changes are already unfolding during the club’s preseason training camp in Pietermaritzburg. Sources within the camp say a new batch of signings is expected to be unveiled when the team returns to Eswatini. There is also talk of a new team bus, which is already generating excitement among supporters.
Coach Ernest Mavuso, who recently signed a two-year deal after parting ways with Green Mamba, has rejoined the black and white outfit and is expected to lead the squad into a new chapter. The return of the veteran coach has boosted optimism among Sgebhu loyalists, many of whom are eager to witness the new-look team in action.
A source close to the team, who requested anonymity, said changes are well underway. “There are new players already, and the team is shaping up, but as you know, what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas,” the source remarked, referring to the club’s decision to keep preseason developments under wraps.
