LOBAMBA – Senators have asked for the review of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of 2018.
This was during the debate of the Ministry and Justice and Constitutional Affairs first quarter performance report on Monday after the minister, Prince Simelane.
“It begs for the review of whether the SODV Act of 2018 is being applied accordingly, especially on the prospects or chances of it being abused or manipulated, and sharpened as a weapon,” Senator Isaac Magagula said.
Magagula highlighted that there could be a number of doubtful SODV Act cases.
Senators also called for the improved performances of the Anti Corruption Commission.
“It would be to encourage the ministry that the commission should be seen to be doing something. We should not only be approving their budgets annually and we see no results, yet we say corruption is a major constraint to development,” Senator Lorraine Nxumalo said.
In response, the minister said he noted the submissions, adding that even though the SODV Act falls on the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office (DPMO), they will collaborate pertaining to the concerns the House made.
“We will have to meet and deliberate with them [DPMO],” Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Prince Simelane said.
