According to the medical report of the other woman whose identity is concealed for ethical reasons, her left face was swollen, had bruises as well as substantive haemorrhage. She also had a 4cm scratch along the nose and soft tissue injury due to assault. Her vision was tainted on the left eye.

Mamba pleaded guilty to the charge.

She said the other woman accused her of having an affair with her boyfriend. Mamba said she retaliated, admitting having acted wrongly.

The magistrate told Mamba that her reaction was excessive and dangerous. The court further noted that violence is never a justified response, regardless of provocation.

Her defence attorney stated that the offence carried seriousness with it, however, pleaded for a lenient sentence. Mamba was a first-time offender and had not wasted the court’s time by pleading guilty.

She was fined E2000 or alternatively, with a two-year imprisonment sentence. Furthermore, Mamba was ordered to compensate Mahlalela with E600 for the sustained injuries.
