MSAHWENI – His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) officers visited Ludzibini High School on Thursday last week to engage learners on the dangers of gangsterism, drug abuse, and other destructive behaviours affecting young people in the country.
The session, held at the school located in Msahweni under the Hhohho region, saw officers urging students to steer clear of peer pressure, bullying, alcohol and substance abuse, early dating, and crime. They also warned learners about the rising number of kidnappings and shared tips on how to stay safe.
Former inmate Lwazi Dube, who spent over 13 years at the Matsapha Maximum Correctional Centre, delivered a sobering account of how wrong choices can cost young people their freedom, dreams, and dignity. He encouraged learners who may have lost their way to consider turning their lives around while they still have a chance.
Teachers, including head teacher Sibongile Gama, welcomed the visit and said the experience offered students more than just words of caution. Gama said the session shifted the way her pupils viewed their future and the choices ahead of them.
The outreach, which took place on 4 July, forms part of HMCS’s ongoing schools programme aimed at preventing youth crime and promoting responsible decision-making among pupils.
